K I A - A Father's Tears
White crosses seen bearing names The flag waves high in the air A man stands, with tears in his eyes With the pain of what brought him there Pride in his heart, sorrow in his soul An emptiness felt as he continues to live While in the ground lays the body of his son KIA, for his country his life he did give The last letter home, still fresh in his mind "Don't worry Pop, all is ok, I am doing fine" As he recalls his son's words, he begins to cry Worry he did, for he had read between the lines He believed in the cause, and knew of the sacrifices He too had served his country proudly many years before Tears he had shed then for the brave who lost their lives And this day, he cries again, now for his son taken by the war Beside the grave he kneels down, softly he begins to speak "My son, of you I am so proud, you fought hard, you fought well. You gave your life in battle, protecting that which you believed in. Of your love, courage, dedication and bravery, my grandson I will tell" "And each night my son, I will pray, that peace be found in the lands That the day will come when the white crosses no longer will they place I know, your death and others will not be in vain, the day I pray will come For the men and women of tomorrow to live in harmony, war never to face." Slowly the man rose, he began to walk away, turning he looked once more At the many graves of those that had fought in wars and gave their lives He thought of his grandson, and all of the children and families Of the men and women buried there and around the world, and then he said, "Please God, May peace and love throughout soon arrive."
