"A Little Dove"
I took a little walk today
Not very far, just down the way
I ran into a little girl who sat crying
My, but she was just a little thing
I stopped in front of her and ask her name
She looked up and from deep within a sigh came
"I am not suppose to talk to strangers ma'am"
"But...my name is Christina, that is who I am"
I knew I shouldn't go against what she had been taught
But I was sadden to see her cry and the reasons why I sought
"Christina, I know you should not talk to me, this is true
But I am very concerned about what it is upsetting you"
I took a little hankie from my pocket and handed it to her
Holding back my own tears causing my eyes to begin to blur
"Well, I lost something today, something I should not of
It was very special to me, my rock, it was a little dove"
I didn't understand why a rock could be so special
I knew their had to be a reason, so I ask her to please tell
She said, "My mommy gave it to me just before she went away
And ma'am, my Grammy told me that on the wings of a dove
my mommy had gone away, up in the sky to heaven above"
"Grammy said that I would be able to see my mommy again
Just like her on the little dove I would fly, but nobody knows when"
"Ma'am, I lost my little dove, I won't ever be able to get up there"
Knowing how the mind works in such a precious little youngster
I told her not to cry anymore, I had something I wanted to give her
I ran all the way back to my house, and went to my little display shelf
I picked up the figurine that would mean so much more to her than myself
Back to her I went, kneeling down, I told her to hold out her hand
Within it I placed the little white ceramic dove and saw the look on her face
No longer sad, and in her little teary eyes now a sparkle so bright took place
While walking back home I thanked the Lord for sending me Christina's way
Of life and death she will learn with age, but it was a little dove she needed
today
