Yesteryears For Today

The child cries out from hunger
The young boy fights in the street
A girl, scantly dressed, stands on the corner
An old couple shiver in a home without heat.

Are they merely strangers to all which walk past?
Are people so busy we simply no longer see?
Have we no time to stop, to help, to wonder why?
Perhaps it is that we care, but only to a degree?

We could make a difference in this world
If only we took more time to care
By reaching out and offering a helping hand
And let someone in need know we are there.

I think back to the stories from yesteryears
Of the people of that time and day
They knew how to take care of those
Who were less fortunate or needy in some way

To have lived in that day and age
Where love for a neighbor was known
So much in the world could now be changed
If certain ways from the past by all were shown.

Do not look blindly away, or turn a deaf ear
Look within your heart, show someone you care
I believe that together a difference we all can make
To a child, a boy, a girl, or the old couple out there somewhere.
