The Princess and Her Lover

Softly she cries as her spirit leaves
Gone with the wind lost forever she believes

The Princess sits surrounded by misery
Her Prince chosen, as the King decided her destiny

But her heart longs to be with another man
Not with the Prince who is soon to be her husband

Love found her one day long ago
She did not go looking for it but find it she did though

Forbidden for a peasant man and she to be together
They hid from all - the times that they were

Now this morn the King had come to her and said
"Tomorrow my dear child, you and the fine Prince shall wed."

Out in the distance her lover approaches with speed
This was the day on which to run away they had agreed

But the plans had now changed, of her affair the King had been informed
If the Princess did not stop the love affair then death of her lover he had warned

As he dismounted she told him the news then said, "Life with you would be grim"
and crying still she said, "It is you I love, it is not him"

"But without you I can't live, if I marry him then you I have not,
and if I continue to love you, the King vowed to have you shot"

She placed a kiss upon his lips and told him her love for him had been true
Then she reached into her pocket and on herself the pistol she drew

As the shot rang out, he caught her
"Oh My Princess, No!! No!!", he cried out in despair
He held her tightly, as he took the pistol from her
Without his Princess life he could not bare

Another shot rang out in the air...
The end of a Love Affair
